I started entering information into this site in July 2003, and it seems to be a never-ending story, but a fun one to research. I came across a poem that was written by Emil Brack on March 24th, 1943, it was prompted by Emil's whole family narrowly escaping death by freezing. He wrote it to his nephew Harry. Emil was involved in genealogy also, and I thought it would be fitting to place it here.

Many of those who follow me
 Descendants of the Brack's
 Will never care a whit about
 Retracing any tracks.
 They come and go and leave their marks
 Upon the sands of time
 But who is who, no one records
 In either prose or rhyme.
 The things they say, or do, or think
 Are lost forever more
 The moment that their last grandchild
 In death shall close his door.
 For who is there among us now
 Can tell of so-and-so 
 Among his forbearers, thus did he
 A hundred years ago.
 But if among our progeny
 There be a scattered few
 Who seek a trail behind their time
 Of things we said and knew
 For them we shall record these thoughts
 With paper and pen,
 The highlights in the lives of those
 Who are not but who have been.
